Happy Valentine’s Day!

02-14-12

This is the sweetest thing I’ve seen today. Girls paying tribute to Whitney Houston at Laneway Festival SG. (Note: Pretend you don’t hear the rude kids shouting)

20 songs

02-9-12

This meme is old but I’m giving it a try: Hit shuffle on your iPod or mp3 player and write down the first 20 songs. No cheating or skipping songs that are shameful.

Here’s what I’ve got. An odd mix of pop, rock, OPM, and indie :)

  1. Theme From “A Summer Place” – An Education OST
  2. Radio Guy – Ciudad
  3. Please Don’t Leave Me –Pink
  4. Crystalline – Bjork
  5. Don’t Let Me Down – Annie Lennox
  6. Ambi Dextrose – Eraserheads
  7. An Argument With Myself – Jens Lekman
  8. Bitter Branches – PJ Harvey
  9. The Beauty of Gray – Live
  10. In Your Eyes – Kylie Minogue
  11. Unrequited Love – LykkeLi
  12. She – Rivermaya
  13. The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out To Get Us – Sufjan Stevens
  14. 15 Minutes – The Strokes
  15. Tiptoe – The Antlers
  16. Fireworks – Drake ft. Alicia Keys
  17. I Want To Break Free – Queen
  18. Tomorrow – Orange and Lemons
  19. Music When The Lights Go Out – The Libertines
  20. Anna Freud – The National
Whew! I’m glad something from The National came out otherwise I’m not making this post. Haha! My friend Richard saw them last year and he wrote something about his euphoric experience. Go click: Walking with Spiders: A Night with The National.

Family bonding at QC Memorial Circle

01-24-12

For two consecutive weekends, my family went to Quezon City Memorial Park for some family bonding and fitness activities. My father and sister jogged, while my brother-in-law and mother played badminton. Me? I “entertained” my nephew Wacky and rode a bicycle sidecar. I have no sporty shoes so I just people-watched, ate, and played with Wacky. Hahaha! I need to start having a regular workout for a better me this 2012! I still don’t know what to do, though. Running, playing badminton, etc. I also want to learn how to swim! I hope I’ll be able to do any of these fitness activities. Bawal ang tamad!

Anyway, my favorite part of last weekend’s family bonding was having breakfast at the market. The park has an area for tiangge/market and many stalls offer various kinds of food. We had grilled tuna, shrimp, and pancit batil patong (an Ilocano pancit), and buko juice. We had a very simple meal under the shade provided by the trees at the park but we all had fun. I felt like I was a kid again. When I was in grade school and we were still living in QC, my family almost always went to that place on weekends. We’d go biking and dine at eateries with sizzling plates. Life was simple but we were happy. I’m so glad that we had that kind of bonding even now that my sister and I are all grown up. And what makes it more special is we can share rare but happy moments like this with the little angel in our family.

When you love your friends but they don’t go along very well

01-19-12

Like the time traveler who killed his grandfather, these cycles are bringing me down.
We could build a nice life together if we don’t kill each other first.
Are you just too fucked up to understand me or is it the other way around?
Maybe it’s both, and I just don’t know which is worse.

Hello, 2012!

01-11-12

I have been lazy, sorry. I wrote something about my life in 2011 but after much thought I’m not sure if I still want to put it in here. Hehe. Anyway, Happy New Year! Lemme share a couple of photos that are related to my 2011 and 2012:

These are the books I read last year: The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao (Junot Diaz) - I started reading this before New Year and I’m almost with it.; She’s Come Undone (Wally Lamb); The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (Stieg Larsson); The Girl Who Played with Fire (Stieg Larsson); The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest (Stieg Larsson); East, West (Salman Rushdie); Lapit Na Me, Ligo Na U (Eros Atalia); Norwegian Wood (Haruki Murakami); Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan (Bob Ong); Twisted 9 (Jessica Zafra); The Perks of Being a Wallflower (Stephen Chbosky);  Ilustrado (Miguel Syjuco); A Question of Heroes (Nick Joaquin); Sherds (F. Sionil Jose); Dispatches From the Edge (Anderson Cooper); and Elmer (Gerry Alanguilan).

Only 15 books and most of them are manipis. Huhu. Two years ago I started listing the books that I read, their prices, the date I started reading and finishing them, and my favorite quotes and parts from the books. I wasn’t able to complete my list in 2011. I swear, bawal na ang tamad sa 2012!!!

In other news, the Department of Tourism kicked off 2012 by unveiling the country’s new slogan/promotional brand, “It’s more fun in the Philippines”. They created a meme maker for it so I joined the bandwagon. Visit www.morefunmaker.com to make your own ‘more fun’ photo. :D
